Why postcards? I noticed lately that I've been picking up postcard versions of artwork I like that I want to have in my eyesight, but that I don't really have wall space for. If I have the image in a book of a digital file I don't see it regularly. If I have it as a postcard I can just rest it on my desk and it's there to notice, or I can move it to a workspace if I'm working on something I want to reference, or I can take it in with me to my office and not have it weird out the co-workers.
James Jean has done an phenomenal postcard collection of a lot of his work that is just a joy to flip through.
I won't be doing anything like that with these, but here's what I'm thinking; I have a number of ink & watercolor warm up sketches like the ones above. I haven't ever tried doing anything with them but I get positive responses when people see them.
I looked into making a blurb book but I don't think I have enough that are thematically consistent to support a book treatment.
I thought about prints, but prints may be too big for these. They are small sketches, and they should be small prints.
I'm thinking of doing a limited edition set of 5 postcards, the ones above. The edition would be 25 sets. I think have the cards printed for somewhere between $100 & $200, but I'll have to make a custom package for them. That I'm thinking would be a folded sleve envelope of sturdy paper with re-closeable tab seal, but I'll meet to make those myself, and might hand draw on each of them to make them unique.
Then there is shipping. And I can't do this POD, I need to order and assemble all of them at once, though granted 25 sets doesn't seem too bad as far as work goes.
So, what should it all cost? I'm really not sure of the shipping cost, though it should be reasonable as it's just a pack of 5 postcards.
Does $10+ shipping sound like an acceptable price for the 5 drawings above on postcards, enclosed in an unfoldable hand drawn package, as a numbered edition of 25?
