Heavily influenced by youth culture - fashion, film and music; I blend these influences with visuals from experiences travelling around the world. Signage, cartoons, outsider art and streams of consciousness and snatched conversations combined. Much of my work revolves around the medium and a moment in time, with the meaning becoming obscured and more abstracted as time goes on. I see my work as a diary, but a diary that even I may not be able to decipher the original meaning... it is this ambiguity and openness to the audiences' own interpretation that I attempt to present.
Words and language are also recurrent themes within my work - often intentionally misspelt or phonetically broken down, these words or fragments of words force the reader to engage with the sentiment, rather than scan and take in the information without actually absorbing the fullness of the message, even if that message is not obvious enough for you to actually grasp in literal terms.
Always involving drawing, as I believe this is the essence of all creativity; my work covers painting, collage, 3D or semi-3D layered work, stencils, paper-cut, digital work and even events and workshops. It is no doubt due to decades I grew up in that my work straddles the line between the digital and analogue world, in many instances I will take an analogue design and using a computer then create the work from that... Even when I want the finished piece to be wholly digital I need to have that human input - that slightly off edge, that scrawled line; without this I feel that much digital work is without, for want of a better word, a soul.
