Adrian Landon Brooks (b. 1983) studied painting at the San Francisco Art Institute and currently lives and works in Wimberley, Texas. Brooks works predominately in the mediums of painting and illustration, using found materials such as wood, metal, and old photographs as his canvas. He has exhibited in Texas, Denver, Chicago, San Francisco, Portland, Germany , Spain and Amsterdam. In addition to his gallery work, Brooks has been included in museum exhibitions at The Contemporary Austin and Fort Wayne Museum of Art (FWMOA). Brooks has also been featured in Juxtapoz, VNA, Art Maze Mag and selected into the West #126 issue of New American Paintings.

The worlds I paint are imaginative. The paintings originate from dreamlike ideas that pop up in my head.
The origine of these images can be texts, music or other paintings.
During painting, anything can arise and change in the painting. Eventually an image emerges in which the composition, use of color and figuration form a wondrous individuality.

We live in a system which finds convenient to raise insecure people. In Italy one person out of ten suffers or have suffered of Depressive Disorder. Iβm one of them. As I started psychoanaltical therapy, everything went better, but yet I canβt say I will ever win this disease. I chase to build my Universityβs final project around Depression. This theme isnβt addressed properly in Western society, nor fought effectively. Every portrait is a self-portrait. Sometimes I find myself painting a self-portrait as a confused entity.

Initially concerned with gender fluidity and performativity, I seek to use the process of transformation from a cis man to a trans woman (incomplete) to reflect on feminine beauty, racialization of beauty, and anti-racist aesthetics, as discussed by Shirley Anne Tate (2009). Beauty is racialized, meaning that because there cannot be a universal form of beauty, a dominant group of people (white) claims to have the iconic beauty. Anti-racist aesthetics seeks to challenge the white supremacy in beauty by exploring non-white beauties and their thinking.
