Sucking Up Starlight (2.5" x 2.5")
When I was wee, soda pop was a rare treat. It was never in the house, and I only got to have it on the rarest of occasions. For this reason, it was very interesting to me, especially the bubbles. I always pictured soda, in my head, as starlight for the mouth.
Nowadays, I can buy soda any time I want, but I don't like it, any more. It's so sweet I choke on it, and it hurts my teeth. Even my old favourites, like tonic water, don't seem to taste as I remember: there's a cloying sugariness about them, which I'd swear wasn't there before.
I still drink soda, even though I shouldn't, and even though I don't enjoy it, because I still somehow expect that starlit feeling on my tongue...and because I get a headache, without that morning infusion of sugar and caffeine.
Man, I'm worthless....
