Laguna Churup, Cordillera Blanca, Peru
Laguna Churup rises 5,495m above the city of Huaraz in Peru’s Cordillera Blanca, the highest tropical mountain range on Earth and second only to the Himalaya when it comes to peaks over 6,000 metres. A fairly easy day hike, you’ll still need to be well acclimatised so don’t try to tackle it unless you’ve been in town for at least a couple of days and undertaken a hike at lower altitude. The colectivo for Pitec, the head of the trail, leaves from Av. Gamarra at the north west corner at Antonio Raymondi at around 07:20 and costs S/10 per person, returning at 14:00. The final section involves some scrambling, with cables to hold on to, but if you’re uncomfortable with this then it can be avoided by taking a path that splits off to the left of the main trail. #travel #photography #mountains #hiking #Peru @ellobackcountry @ellotravel @ellooutside @ellolandscape @ellophotography @amateur_photography @ello
