Smoke and Fire
Little things gathered like twigs light fires
flaming with rage you can’t put out.
Sometimes it only takes a petal
to make a wineglass overflow.
Little disputes boil bigger problems
in favor’s kettle until hatred and bitterness settle.
Follow the smoke from small twigs
to find scorching fires burning down forests.
For where there is smoke there is fire
and where there are twigs there shall be logs.
Smoke and fire are what irony is to satire
burning down love’s desire into ashes so dire.
