Tragedy of Prophecies
Unheeded prophetess Cassandra
princess of troy & Athena’s
high priestess refused Apollo’s
advances who punished her with prophecies
that were seen as breaths of madness.
She recognized Paris as Alexandros
Priam’s son & warned her peoples
about the Greeks’ Trojan horse
but no one believed her prophecies.
She sought refuge in Athena’s
temple and latched to her statue
but the lesser Ajax raped her in Athena’s
temple after breaking the statue.
They say Athena’s cried tears
that burned and asked Zeus
to send storms to burn the Greeks’
ships killing thousands of their soldiers.
For her bad luck she was among the spoils
given to king Agamemnon whose wife
Clytemnestra who was in an affair with Aegisthus.
To keep her secret & having heard of Agamemnon’s
twins with her Teledamus & Pelops she & Aegisthus
killed the poor priestess who was sent to the Elysian fields.
Today she is remembered as a symbol
of purity and magical abilities
to foretell destinies with an eyelid
pierced by a staff signaling star crossed
love and unrecognized gifts.
