How to Be Us
You promised me not to change
I promised you not to mope.
You promised me to stay within range
I promised to love you and give you hope.
Promises are pacts that give love
roots, care a face, and dreams legs.
But actions keep love warm like a stove
heating a house while warming foods.
Promises require change to gage
natures, responses, and tempers to cope
with life’s frustrating realities that cage
humans’ souls strangling them like a rope.
Saying I love you is a promise that changes
you and I to better for the both of us..
Some days are harder than others.
Some changes hurt because they remind us
of others; but in the end we have our own stages
to live and enjoy, to grow and realize how to be us.
We will shed tears, face fears
but all that will make us fierce.
Love is a symphony that begs
listening before learning to sing.
Singing is the sound of harmony
but symphony has a beauty
played only by two hearts
beating as one shouting let’s do this
I want you, you want me, let’s be us.
