Life is a sieve
sifting souls like a thief
sorting memories and broken dreams
torn from time’s dress
by experience’s sleeve.
I fell off happiness’ eave
at the feet of hurt’s reeve.
He tore my dress with griefs
soiled my mind with doubts
and bled my soul with fears.
until you gave me a reason to believe;
that life can be so brief
to waste it on things to grieve.
You gave me smiles
to wear and dreams
to follow and perceive.
Because of you I believe
you must give if you wish to receive
you must follow your dreams
and take chances
even when all you wanna do is leave.
Life is a tireless loom built to weave
characters with hurts that peeve
souls and minds before bodies.
Because of you I have spun threads
of faith, happiness, and relief.
I’ve found smiles to reprieve
tears to face deaths’ that bereave.
I’ve learned to face my fears
and be fierce to face the years
to come; wearing your smile for a greave.
So darling hurt and life may cleave
us in time and distance with disbelieve;
but I know I have one dress:
your smile and your caress.
They keep me warm knowing you’d never leave.
