Moses Staff of Hearts
Back in the olden times
someone asked Moses
about love and fear’s balance.
He said: speak softly with kindness
but carry a big stick with firmness.
Love and fear are opposite ends
on the staff of human passions.
Once held firmly beyond fears
love is deemed safe from loss.
To do so keep dignity’s shins
out of pride’s waters.
And hurts’ elbows
under compassion’s sleeves.
Don’t zoom in love with fears
lest you get pity and pretense.
Use firmness to find balance
between human passion’s ends.
Love commands respect from hearts.
But fear restrains hearts with chains.
Who needs a heart in chains?
A caged bird can’t sing sweet melodies!
Hearts are birds meant to sing love’s
melodies not shriek fears’ notes!
