Ramadan's Essence - Acrostic
Some think this month is about not
Having food or drink from dusk till sunset.
Accordingly they think they
Have fulfilled the fasting
Ritual to its fullest by giving
Up drinking and eating forgetting that
Letting go of earthly pleasures isn’t the goal.
Temperance and compassion are because
Asceticism is just the road to
Acquaintance with the path of
Adoration of the Maker by
Honoring His creations
Through humility, humanity dictated
In His scriptures on purity of intention.
What people don’t know is that
All forms of worship are for man’s
Lavish afterlife except fasting it’s purely divine.
Mainly because you could
Abstain from water and food with nothing to
Gain other than a good figure if you are bad to your
Human brother whether he be of other color or religion
For God has created you all different tribes with different languages to
Inspire and instigate you to learn and get to know each other and
Relate to each other in a brotherly manner
Affixed with equality, solidarity, and
Honoring human dignity to celebrate beneficence: Ramadan’s Essence!
Acrostic Spelling Shahrul Taahit wal Maghfirah: Month of Obedience and Forgiveness Acrostic written from the vision of mystics towards Ramadan for whom Ramadan is an opportunity to trade with the Rahman (the Most Beneficent & Merciful). See according to our Prophet Muhammad Peace be upon His soul, Ramadan is a month that begins with mercy, showcases forgiveness in its center and rewards saving from hell in its end. In other words it is not a folklore or a food party or a reason to overspend. It is a month where Muslims keep their covenant with God as His prophets Abraham, Yosef, Jacob, Noah, Jesus, Moses, and Muhammad did by giving thanks to God by exerting humility, restraint, reviewing your deeds, seeking forgiveness, exerting tolerance, remembering the poor, the orphans, the widows, the misfortunate, the helpless, the homeless and the ones buried in debt! I see it as a tijara (trade) with God Al-Kareem (the Most Generous). Where I come from in Lebanon, it is a season where we share God's blessings with all religions, and especially those misfortunate where you are obliged to smile as you say Ramadan Kareem which means Ramadan is generous in forgiveness, tolerance, temperance, brotherhood and social solidarity.
