Hundred Story Challenge
Here's a thing to try next year: by the end of the year come up with a hundred story ideas you want to write. Each #writing idea consists of:
- Viewpoint character
My reason for attempting this is mainly that I want to get past the fear that if a story doesn't work or I can't place it, I'll be stuck. I won't be stuck: there will be 99 other stories ready to go. So I can scatter them to the winds, and if I have 100 stories to put out there, I don't need a success rate higher than 1%.
The other thing is Sturgeon's Law
My short story collection is OK, and there are a few good ones in there. I'm happy with it, mostly. But I want to do another one in a couple of years perhaps, and if I write 100 stories, then the 10% of them that aren't crud will make a good core for it (along with maybe 5 that are so-so but thematically compatible).
So, I'll race you. I've got 3 so far.
