Bio: I am currently finishing up my final semester as a fine art and graphic design double major. My work focuses on the intersections of person, time and place, and opens conversations about history, culture, memory and displacement. I was born and raised in Singapore before moving to Vietnam and subsequently the United States.
Title: expose / dispose
Artist Statement: Throughout history, the nude female form has been exploited and sexualized instead of celebrated. This is a result of the male-dominated presence in an institutionalized art world, as well as in advertising and the media. Women in turn become subjugated to objectification, while their worth to society is simultaneously reduced. As a result, women become conditioned to view their own bodies as something to be concealed, censored, or ashamed of, rather than as forms of dignity and empowerment.
