There is no virtue in doing a good deed in hopes of being rewarded in the afterlife. The only virtuous act is giving or acting without any expectation of getting, whether this be gratitude from the receiver, or your own enjoyment of the act of giving.
Therefore, I do not give to be virtuous. I give because it is a pleasurable act. I also do not have sufficient evidence to conclude that anyone gives or acts virtuously as the idea of giving or acting without even the smallest motive seems highly improbable.
