My name is Itzel Alejandra, I am photographer and multimedia journalist/artist from the border of El Paso and Juarez. At a young age I started to document different parts of my community. Everything from the border, music, style, food, protest, social issues, etc... inspired by my hunger to see my community (latinx, indigenous, working class, and migrants) in media. To see our GIFs, our videos, our stories as part of the everyday content that we consume. I have been working for a Latinx publication, Remezcla (remezcla.com) that prides itself on providing a wide variety of latinx perspectives and work as a photo editor there. My goal and hope is to tell the stories of my community from our perspective, to raise the issues that we have both externally and internally, to make photos that provide a sense of dignity, to expand the perspective of those who don't understand us, and lastly to show the beauty we have in our complex and dense community.
