On the closest bench there is a sitting couple. They seem to be an old couple. Further away, in the background there is another bench… empty. The other bench seems to be the exact reflection of the first one, same bench, surrounded by the same arch with leaves around it. The only difference is that it’s empty. Just as if everything was reflected, but the old couple. Maybe they are too old, maybe their time has come, or will come soon, and the other bench could be interpreted as an image of the near future. The bench will still be there, but they won’t….
Do we know when our time will come? Do we have that intuition, that perception? And if we would have it, how should we react? I believe that each and every one will react in their own way, depending on his or her conception of life, and death.
When my time will come I hope I’ll remember the words of the Roman philosopher Marcus Aurelius, recalling that there is no need to fear death because death occurs according to the Laws of Nature, and there is nothing bad in Nature. I’ll tell you if I have the opportunity… but for now, it’s either I don’t have the intuition… or maybe my time has not come yet.
