WILL PHOTOGRAPHY SURVICE THE SELFIES?
A few years ago, in order to have a camera you had to decide to buy one, to inquire and make a choice. Today you don’t. Today the camera comes to you. Today almost everyone has a smartphone, and every smartphone comes with a camera.
I must confess that a few years ago, when the first smartphones appeared and thus began the phenomena of massive popularization of those digital” imaging-tools”. Yet, I cannot refer to those as a “cameras”. I thought that this could well be the phenomena which would bury “real cameras” and with them “real photographers” in a marble tomb.
But I was wrong. It just challenged the photographers, because now, that everyone can produce images, a photographer, and I believe especially a street photographer, has to make a real difference, not so much in the technical aspect than with his eye, with his choices. The “smartphone phenomena” challenges us, as photographers- in a good way. I, personally, have learned that I don’t have to fear the competition, because the only valid competition is the one I maintain within myself.
