LOOKING AT SHADOWS
When we visit a museum, we pass from one item to the next. We see a continuous flow of people in constant movement, like a giant serpent, finding its way across the museum.
This Egyptian scribe – from the Louvre Museum – is one of those items. It stands still. It does not move. It does not go anywhere. People who pass in front of him are no more than shadows, appearing and disappearing in a glance.
The scribe has already seen millions of those ephemeral shadows, thousands of years have gone by and the Scribe is sitting still in his place.
Who is more real? Who, in a way, is more present….and who has reached eternity? The Scribe of the shadows? Him or us?
