One of the most common questions I think any designer is asked is: what is your inspiration? What a hard question to answer. Inspiration often comes from a blink in time - a fractured moment imbedded in memory - a sensation that is a reflection of a feeling - and so I usually answer that question in some lame way like: um... nature or something? Ha! Maybe not quite that lame, but close.
Yesterday, I was checking on the ducklings and as I rounded the mammoth pine tree I realized the woodpile had become a breeding ground for wild violets.
I smiled and was transported to a spring a few years ago. Our entire front lawn was spattered with violets - even more predominantly than dandelions which was a departure from the norm, and the direct inspiration for the Wild Violets Shawl.... as it is, I was writing the pattern exactly one year ago!
