Veronica Dimitrov is an American painter and photographer based in Los Angeles. Her work is primarily portraiture and the abstract. Dimitrov’s portraits focus on understanding the relationship between an individual and the society they live in.
“Always a Lady” provides a glimpse into the world of femininity. In straight and gay culture, a person is commonly looked down upon if they present themselves as too feminine while identifying as male. In this portrait, the shirt which has a flower and reads “always a lady” is scuffed and broken in places while he gazes confidently towards the viewer. This represents the journey he’s had to take in order to have confidence and a comfortable space within himself to fully explore and express the level of femininity that he naturally has in a world that is tough to accept male-identifying people as anything but stereotypically manly.
