can we talk about how there's been this thing happening in the past 5 years where serotonin is being debunked as the mediator of depression?
they bscly injected a mouse with some neuroinflammatory thing that had been shown previously to make people feel some type of way (e.g. depressed) and made it express this specific gene they think is important for the new depression pathway (cascade of proteins making other proteins do things). they think this specific gene has a lot to do with depression, and were real enthused when they found that mice without the ability to express this gene (i.e. use it to make proteins; genetically modified the mice/deleted the gene) didn't exhibit depression-associated behaviors when they got some of the neuroinflammatory thing.
there are a lot of antidepressants that are only on the market in the USA/North America and are not on any other markets bc they don't meet efficiency standards. like the drugs don't do anything. there are advertisements for antidepressants on television. this is a discussion topic haha pls respond
