2018 Spotlight Awards Fashion Shortlist – Timothy Hulme, South Africa
After seeing many great submissions in Spotlight Awards last year, Anne Franke, Senior Photo Producer and Art Buyer at GREY, was glad to join the judge panel for the second year. Moreover, she kindly took some time to give her insights of what she is interested to see in the awards submissions, what she looks for in a photographer in general, and more. Read on!
Production Paradise: Could you give us some insight into your background and your journey to becoming a Senior Photo Producer at Grey?
Anne Franke: Originally I started out in photography. I trained as a photographer and worked as a photo assistant for two years before starting as an art buyer at several agencies – Ogilvy&Mather, TBWA in Düsseldorf and Atletico International in Barcelona. Currently, I am a Senior Photo-Producer/Art Buyer at Grey.
I have worked on many national and international clients. Mostly beauty and fashion clients but also in the automotive field. However, my passions certainly lie with fashion projects.
2018 Spotlight Awards Fashion Shortlist – Helena Palazzi, United States
Production Paradise: What made you want to be a judge on the panel?
Anne Franke: I find it exciting to discover new talents and get in contact with photographers, who would not necessarily be discovered otherwise.
Production Paradise: What is it about fashion photography that appeals to you?
Anne Franke: There is no genre that shapes the zeitgeist and manages to set new trends quite as much as the fashion industry.
2018 Spotlight Awards Fashion Shortlist – Patrick Curtet, United States
Production Paradise: What are some of the trends that you see in Fashion imagery?
Anne Franke: For me, three trends stand out: First of all, street style photography which is still popular and contemporary. Glamorous and sexy as shown in Mert Alas & Marcus Piggott current work, as well as silence – a focus on the essentials.
Production Paradise: What sort of images would you like to see in the competition?
Anne Franke: Images that take you by surprise, catch you off guard and transmit a special moment.
2018 Spotlight Awards Fashion Shortlist – Emilio Garcia Hernandez, United States
Production Paradise: What are you looking for in a photographer?
Anne Franke: I am always looking for a photographer who has an eye for that one special moment. Someone who manages to add something special to the picture.
Production Paradise: How important are online platforms for finding new talent?
Anne Franke: Very important! It is not so easy to discover new talents. Often, they are reluctant to introduce themselves to established agencies such as Grey.
2018 Spotlight Awards Fashion Shortlist – Dave Hynes, Canada
Production Paradise: What platforms do you use to scout new photographers?
Anne Franke: Of course I look at Production Paradise, as well as inpholio, Behance, and nowadays quite important, Instagram.
Production Paradise: In what ways do you think Production Paradise Spotlight Awards could benefit photographers?
Anne Franke: Production Paradise Spotlight Awards offer the photographers a platform where they can present themselves and their work. This personal connection is so valuable.
