My name is Guy Gondron
My work can be found under that name, though my paintings are all signed "Guy".
I also have a few pieces or series' of work under the names Protoguy and Peeg.
Peeg being a truncated version of Protoguy.
My current series of work is called Harbingers.
The individual pieces are often called Skelecrows in addition to their literal titles.
Skelecrows represent something of an evolution in my work. About the time the concept was forming in my head and on paper, I was diagnosed with cancer. The images seemed prophetic in many ways, these Harbingers of Doom that came to me in my head, bringing near-certain death with them. Close friends advised that I stop painting them, and I did for awhile, mostly to appease them, but also because I know I don't know everything. Being a cynical skeptic atheist agnostic, I couldn't deny the beauty and simplicity of the image. So it was back to the canvas.
The original thought went something like this:
Birds, especially carrion birds like ravens and crows, have represented messengers of disease or death. Harbingers of doom. Ironic, in that they tend to appear after the cold fact rather than before, pronouncing past or present death, not future.
Like death, birds are all around us; one of the few animals that have little or no fear of man. They are beyond our reach, physically and intellectually. Cold observers to our trudge toward oblivion.
The series I'm currently working on is based on animals, groups of animals in particular, with a dark, "red in tooth and claw" vibe. The Stallion is the first in that series.
Lastly, though I'm a lover of landscapes, I paint anything and everything from portraits to abstracts to still life.
Most of my work can be seen at Deviantart:
My more recent pieces can be seen on my Facebook page:
