Sorry I've been silent so long. The Holidays + Covid + CPR training x Life in general = all I want to do in my down time is sleep. Thank god for stimulus checks and tax returns as I have finally been able to purchase myself an actual by-God bed. I've spent the last year sleeping on a broken down mattress on the cold, hard floor. Now I feel like The Princess & The Pea, minus the Princess part.
I'm not doing a full update tonight, just wanted to check in on this bitterly cold 11 degree winter night in New England. You see, I found a dead person on my way into work this morning - homeless, underdressed, frozen white and in full rigor. No sign of violence, just a single, grasping hand stuck straight up by their side, fingers curled partway like an alabaster flower. I'm assuming it was either an OD or exposure, or an unfortunate combination of both.
Please be warm tonight, my dears. Please be grateful for that bed on which you sleep, no matter how thin, old or beaten down it may be. Do not become so beaten down yourself that you cannot feel a little warmth for those less fortunate than you.
