I've just started reading Don Norman's The Design of Everyday Things, and feel so connected to his sentiment towards technology. this passage made me immediately think of one of my least favorite Apple iOS UI features: the utterly useless spinny wheel things found in the alarm section of the clock app [and possibly elsewhere].
Though they've lost their skeuomorphic "wheels," their core functionality remains baffling. Why am I sitting here spinning wheels when I can simply type in the time? Where nearly every A/B state in iOS is controlled by a circle toggle (like the 'snooze' button in the screenshot below), this AM/PM is also on a "wheel," even though the "wheel" only has two states????
