A little opinion, for my readers' consideration:
“Resisting arrest” should not be itself considered a crime. It is in the nature of anyone pursued to flee pursuit, as much as it is in the nature of the pursuer to pursue. To pursue is the duty, the function, the purpose, the raison d’etre of police departments, and it is quite ridiculous for them to complain of the obligation to do so. I say nothing, here, of whether a suspect deserves pursuit, but I do say, One convicted of any crime, should be punished for that crime, and nothing else. It is not justice, in the full and practical meaning of the word, to punish merely for adding insult to injury, and requiring the police to exert themselves.
Any responses?
