My work is here to assure those who have questioned themselves.
My work is here to enlighten those who have been lied to.
My work is here to challenge the misconceptions that have gained popularity.
My work is here to remind the community that Black is beautiful.
Wide noses and thick lips are beautiful.
Nappy hair and big Afros are beautiful.
The imperfections we desperately try to correct are the most beautiful aspects of who we are. We must appreciate the natural attributes we have been blessed with. We must love and treasure our blackness.
This is a celebration of Black Beauty.
Akan (A.K (@akanartist)
Akan is a prominent Baltimore-Nigerian artist with a unique artistic mind. His artwork ranges from serious issues in society such as gun violence, to personal aspects of his own life.
He might show himself drawing himself through his eyes (literally), or express pure happiness and sadness using himself as the muse. There is no limits on his style; he can paint on canvas, draw with pen and pencil, along with digital painting using a tablet. The different mediums used bring out different specialties he can perform. With ink he can get highly detailed, creating every strand of grass until the field comes alive. With painting the edges tend to be soft

A two-time Juno award winner, as well as a scholarship graduate of the VFS -2D animation program, I began as a self-taught artist, gaining worldwide recognition as a “pioneering artist” in the Canadian Graffiti/Muralist genre.
In over fifteen years as a freelance artist, I have had the opportunity to work within various genres and styles, for clients ranging from major corporations to independent businesses as well as celebrity music artists. I enjoy the challenge of simultaneously tackling several projects, from concept to completion. My approach to each project is with the same integrity and dedication.
