Model truck I built for a model contest, my one and only entry ever.
The rusting was the second longest part. Hours with a Dremel, picks, sand paper, grinding away at this poor model.
But it was the paint that took the longest. The paint took almost a month, easily over fifty layers of paint, blended, wiped down and it was a mess! Getting the rust color was the biggest pain. I tried every "rust" colored paint I could find, even ordered some and none looked right. At least right to me. The only part that got skimped on was the finish of the diorama. I had been working on it for almost 2 months and was getting sick of it. Truth be told my now ex-wife had the sits with it too, me in the basement all the time, she was not happy.
I wanted to have a tree growing up through the bed of the truck and more grass and stuff around. But a friend said to go easy on the grass did not want to obscure too much of the model.
I won first place in the diorama category. Since I worked at the hobby store where the contest was being held I entered in under a false name since I knew all the judges and worked with two.
The model met a sad death in the evacuation after my marriage went completely sideways and she kicked me out. It wound up in a box and got crushed. Oh well, still got the plaque and ribbon.
