“The Temptation OF The Mountain II”
The project deals with the architecture of a metaphysical, distant world which takes place in a neglected area, a metamorphic site created by the 16th century tanneries. The artwork diagnoses this transition between the city and the mountains where the last human traces have been left in a slow process of integration with nature, a potential sacrifice of memory and the past. The piece functions as a topological – architectural allegory, infiltrating local history and myths alongside with developing an ephemeral dialectic of the microscopic human existence with the macro world. While people and their city are turning towards the valley, this place seems timeless, dark, still – born like and enigmatic. The human presence seems transparent, immaterial and surrendered to a game of transformations which surpasses it. The ruins appear to be a passage to the divine, like a channel of communication between the place with the distant wild nature, abandoned to a silent and slow process of change still underway. Yet nothing seems definite in this battle, the consciousness of human mortality creates an eternal state of immunity, capable of claiming the limits, of struggling against the temptation of the mountain. The installation has been developed in two separate locations where a plastic object becomes an artificial environment with a chemical lake and a mountain consisted of salt, glue and chemicals inside the ruins of a tannery while at the second location, at the border of the neglected buildings with the side of the mountain two artificial chemical mountains have been placed in a column made o cement with a microscopic human figurine at the top facing the power of a perennial, untouched world.
