Using Ello for a Doctor Who rant:
The actors are great, the show looks beautiful, the music is lovely… but that’s all for naught when the plot is like a sieve. I understand the messages the writers are trying to send about the Doctor & Clara, and humanity making choices, and blahdeblahblah. However, if you want to create an effective vehicle for those messages, you can’t forget the basics of storytelling.
Things that took me out of the story:
- Firstly, Courtney’s characterization is all over the place!
- If the moon has always been an egg why did the egg suddenly increase in mass to make it equal to Earth’s? wouldn’t it have been slowly growing inside the egg? I love silly plots and premises as much as the next gal, but this just didn’t make sense…
Humanity’s plan is to kill the space chicken while it’s still in the egg… I don’t know how this will get rid of the mass problem that is wreaking havoc on Earth?
- I don’t think this was supposed to have anything to do with abortion, but how oblivious are the writers to not see that debate influencing viewers. “womankind, its your choice” eugh.
I loved Clara’s speech at the end. I liked this quote from the AV Club’s review: "Clara furiously calls out a middle-aged Scotsman for all the ways his treatment of her is thoughtless and patronizing."
Get it together. So many parts of the show are awesome, but these things just drag me right of the story and ruin it for me. I am willing to suspend my disbelief A LOT, but there’s a limit.
