I know everyone wants more scary movies to watch this month. I could make this list ten times as long and still not hit all of the best- but there are a lot of underrated gems there, so go read up if you're looking for good horror to watch. Each one has the plot elements listed as well as any asides I have about the film.
Personally I dislike CGI and romantic subplots. I like strong plot and writing, and dislike teen angst (Gingersnaps is on the list, though) and I tend to watch a lot of movies that are not only creepy/atmospheric, but also gritty. I don't like too many slasher flicks- although a few are great enough to make my list. I don't believe in anything supernatural but there are some of those too. I mostly hate found-footage, but one or two are good enough to watch (out of thousands...seriously, indie filmmakers need to move on)
I do love gore, but if the plot isn't driven by it, I don't like it. I'm pretty fussy about horror movies actually. Jump scares irritate me. Plot holes upset me. Too much backstory/screentime wasted on explanation or flashbacks enrages me.
I wrote that long list while trying to list my five favorite horror movies. I couldn't. Almost all I ever watch is horror, so I had fifty or so, not five.
Enjoy! (feel free to share the link/list or comment and add more!)
