I love working on botanical illustration-style pieces. I get to find the specific characteristics of a plant, and emphasize them, making it recognizable at a glance. It's shorthand, really. Visual shorthand. I get to work on something like this later tonight and I'm excited about it.
Sometimes the simplest things, the least detailed, can be the most satisfying. I'm not really a huge fan of minimal-line-only works, but once in a while I feel like these pieces succeed when a more realistic piece would have failed- in the sense that the plant wouldn't be recognizable immediately as itself.
Plus I love using a variety of photos and old illustrations as reference.
