Andrew Lahiff "Cosmic Archeology" CDr
Australian composer Andrew Lahiff (now based in the UK) is certainly one of the most underrated artists in ambient genre and I still don't understand why. However, I hope his soundworlds will be soon recognized by broader audience, because he really deserves it. To my knowledge, Andrew has released so far around 15 albums, mostly available as downloads only, 10 of them were available during some, unfortunately, limited period of time on demand as CDr copies through companies like Cafepress or Audiolife.
Album "Cosmic Archeology" is one of Andrew's latest offerings from May of 2010. His compositions are ranging from pure floating tranquil ambience ("Night Of Fallen Stars", "Convolution Codes") to more lively pieces spiced by subtle rhythms ("Into Willow Canyon"), but always based on spherical and relaxing atmospheres. The highlight comes undoubtedly with track "Hidden Worlds Descending Outward", deep, spacey and slowly evolving texture with emerging tasteful sharp percussive sounds. A very futuristic sounding voyage, a true masterpiece!!! Then follows dreamy "Obscure Landmarks" with hauntingly immersive bubbling sounds that evolve later into smooth and varied bell sounds. The journey ends with "Kinetic Gardens", beautiful and evocative ride colored again with more melodious textures, the most rhythmed piece on album, perfect chill out sounds.
"Cosmic Archeology" is worth of your attention and Andrew Lahiff is highly recommended to all fans of deep drifting space ambient!!!
