I'm Robyn Janine; an illustrator & designer from Scotland. I spend most of my life making kind, sincere and empowering things in some capacity and when i'm not staring at a screen I can be found drinking copious amounts of tea, walking a small dog, making up dance routines in secret and trying to keep multiple plants alive.
Statement of work:
My personal experience of feminism began based in shame and uncertainty. Researching articles online, knowing things were wrong but feeling uneasy about speaking out - that I didn't have the knowledge or intelligence to have an input and that someone smarter and more eloquent would get it done for me.
I realised along the years that the most detrimental thing to the the mistreatment and misrepresentation of people who identify as women is women simply communicating with each other. When they stand together, having the space to vocalise their experiences and have them validated, it causes a lightbulb moment. You're not alone - you belong to a group of people who have shared these struggles and who want to make things better. Having this encouragement from other women, for me, has been the most influential and powerful catalyst to be more assured in my beliefs, given me courage to stand up and speak out against mistreatment and to know that even when I'm alone there's a gang of wonderful babes somewhere who care and want the same future that I do.
