there are a lot of things they tell you before you get to high school. that grades are important but connections vital. that the friends you make won't last and love comes cheap. they tell you that your future depends on how well you follow the instructions on a crisp white page and that the discoveries you make about yourself are only important if they make you look better than the person next to you.
they told us all these things and were shocked when we stitched 'fuck you's into our shirts and shaved our heads. the cages they've been carefully crafting since our beginnings now act as a place to store the shit getting left in the past. we drive our cars out towards the borders and set fire to our names. we took what they told us and tattooed it backwards on our arms. we've been rowdy since the day we learned how to talk; they push drugs down our throats in desperate attempts to shut us up. but our teeth grew sharp from misuse and neglect and biting has become the next new thrill.
