My first warrior queen for Inktober: Ahhotep I.
Quick & dirty write up:
Ahhotep I was a 17th Dynasty Egyptian Queen. After the death of her
husband (likely from invading Hyksos) and before the majority of her son
she was the sole ruler of Egypt.
It is known she defended
Thebes against a rebellion. Whether she was directly involved in warfare
is unknown, but she was awarded the Flies of Valor and most other high
military honors, so I am inclined to say she got in the mix.
She was also the first woman to hold the title of God’s Wife of Amun,
a high priestess position. She pre-dates Hapshetshut and it is not hard
to imagine her leadership helped pave the way for powerful Egyptian
royal women to come.
Her name translates to “the Moon is satisfied”.
