Location hunting started a year or so before filming began. We travelled around to various stone circles and viking burial grounds that we knew of and some that we got tips about, scattered all over the south of Norway. We had cameras and film gear with us so we could document each place we visited and use some of the film clips in Saga, even if we didnt use the location for a scene.
In the end, we decided to use what we had closer to home whenever possible. Only a few scenes are not filmed in Porsgrunn. And we are glad we chose to do it that way because of the logistical nightmare it would have been, having to transport all the film gear, actors, costumes and props all over the country.
