Samantha Rosenwald is an LA-based painter and drawer. She grew up in Los Angeles: an image-centric mecca for juice-cleanse Namaste soccer moms, perpetually good-smelling hypebeasts, haughty-meets-hip gallerinas, and, most notably, perpetuators of the myth of perfection. In response to all of this, Samantha has always been a clown. Comedy is her retort to anxiety; it gives her a loophole around the impossible ideals of LA’s sugar-coated, hyper-glossy culture. This inner friction between humor and anxiety – between frantically striving for perfection and then flippantly self-mocking this pursuit – is what drives the work she makes and defines the person she is.
