I'm Sam, a UK based artist | environmentalist. I come from a street art and fashion background, running an ethical streetwear label.
Today I go by the artist name 'samu' which is a word from Japanese Zen Buddhism that traditionally means 'to work mindfully' and be present with whatever you're doing. I apply this meditative technique to create bold and colourful, minimal, abstract work inspired by organic forms and colour pallets extracted from my travels and day to day life.
In my practice, I use only what I call 'good karma materials'. By this, I mean sustainable materials that are good for the environment, cruelty-free (no unnecessary animal stuff in my paints and brushes).
I'd like to paint some big pieces this year and am currently looking to take my work to walls around the world as well as collaborate with companies that share the same environmental values as me. Currently exploring minimalism and no waste lifestyle which is influencing my work, medium and message.
