In the very end of winter, we followed young and promising director of so called (not so) Bollywood movies, on his way to the National Park of Calanques, on the Coast of Mediterranean Sea near Marseille. On his way we came across some brainstorming ideas, swam in the freezing of turquoise, danced to the random music playing in the background of some uncroyable dreamscapes, listened to multiple spontaneous lessons about the turbulent history of Marseille, profoundly inscribed into the stones of this city taken as a place of big cultural encounters, divides and transit that stays in between, imitated the sound of seagulls, drown ourselves in the caramelized sugar, at least once looked at our own shadow, visited Le Corbusier and encountered few dogs and one neurotic cat.
Even thought it’s very hard for me to confirm the order and authenticity of events noted above, isn’t the vivid imagination of a traveler place where the fragments of illusions and dreams are intertwining and deeply transcribing into the realm of real, creating the never ending game of time-space coordinates, wherein only thing that remains stable is the fragment caught through the lenses of an old analogue camera, who stays to resist time even when the memory starts to fade and mix things?
/ ADVENTURES OF YOUNG GAVIOTINO
From Diaries of Pegi.Sju
---> Sanja Vasić is 25 years old Visual Artist originally from Belgrade (Serbia) currently living and studying in Geneva, Switzerland.
Since 2016 she is secretly keeping up with her diary project entitled Diaries of Pegi.Sju, combining two of her biggest joys: photography and writing. Pegi.Sju is an alter ego she created with time to distract the practice of keeping a diary from her everyday identity, which is more complex and harder to define one.
She believes that there is more than a strictly isolated visual aspect of the photography medium, and that a photograph has agency only when it's conceptualized and situated, and she is trying to do it with fiction and poetry, while also enjoying capturing the visuals of the landscapes and cityscapes that surround her.
The photographs that she presented here were created during her voyage d'études (school trip) to Marseille , and they are reflecting her interest in exploring the narrative aspect of photography medium using analogue camera, and the full series is followed by text based on the combination of fiction and memory fragments. Each from these photographs is a fragment or a memory from time-space coordinate that is familiar only to the author, but shared through photography medium, the personal memory becomes fragmented and exposed allowing various and a priori infinite combinations of narrations depending of the viewer's imagination and point of view. Who is Gaviotino? Is he a guy from the photographs? What is he doing on these rocks? Where is he going? What is he thinking of? What is his relation with the landscape that surrounds him? The photographs therefore operate as a liminal space between personal and shared, between fiction and reality, between Yours and Mine.
In the past she worked with Cosmopolitan Serbia, American-Swiss based Magazine Make8elieve, BAFE (Balkan Art Fashion Event), and from January 2018 she is writing as a journalist for Serbian Vajb Magazine, where is also publishing pages from her diaries.
