The ladies I have skated alongside all summer long claimed Gold today at their WFTDA playoff tournament in Charleston. In a few short weeks, they'll be on their way to Nashville, to fight for the Hydra and become World Champions.
When you practice with and against each other every week, and things don't always go right, it's hard not to wonder, "if we can't keep it together now, how will we stay strong against an unknown opponent?" It's easy to forget that those unknown opponents haven't learned your weaknesses, and they don't know your strategies. They don't know how strong you are.
My teammates played their hearts out, and claimed victory with the world's eyes upon them. The world wasn't prepared for this level of Awesome, and those opponents won't know what hit them when it's time for Championships!
It still blows my mind to remember that I know the faces on that live feed so well because I trained with them. A lot. To be part of such a strong team, even as a B-team skater, is an honor that I won't soon forget. :D
