I think a big mistake a lot of spiritual people make, myself included for a while, is that we can do all the energetic and spiritual healing, yet still put things in and on our bodies that are majorly inflammatory, toxic, crap, or barely even food. 😳 After my son was born, I quickly became debilitated by lower back pain that radiated to my abdomen and upper back. I dealt with this for months, until I realized that the pain was caused by my diet and all the inflammation it had caused. I cut out nearly everything that could be considered inflammatory in the beginning: soy, animal proteins/products of any kind, fish, high fat foods (like peanut butter), gluten, coffee caffeine, high protein foods (like shakes), etc. If I ate anything in those categories, pain. I was a soy free, gluten free, low fat, low protein vegan for a while. It was hard but it was the only thing that consistently made the pain go away. 🍓
We can only go so far with energy cleansing, soul retrieval, yoga, meditation, essential oils, herbs, and spirituality in our healing journeys until we need to remember that we have a physical body whose biggest source of nourishment is what we give it - and sometimes what we give it undermines our best intentions at healing.
Am I still vegan? Mostly, but not as strictly and I've started to welcome back gluten and soy in small amounts. I drink tons of green tea for the caffeine and internal soothing benefits. I'm mindful of what I eat but still allow myself to indulge cravings. And I think that's the best I can do, to be mostly mindful, while still allowing myself to be human.
