IS THIS MEME ART ? ? ? - mixed media, 2017 approx. 22" x 22"
In this series the artist uses discarded digital media - spam internet adverts, selfies, and profile pictures - mixed with physical trash to explore the idolization of consumerism in both the digital and physical worlds. The artist has taken pictures from places like tinder profiles, facebook ads, and wechat moments to create personalized altars grounded in the aesthetics of internet meme culture.
Trashy Selfies - digital photos, 2017-2018
In this photo series the artist again uses a humorous angle to question our relationships with the internet and social media as well as the audience's relationship with art. Trashy selfies explores the "art selfie" in a way that simultaneously pokes fun at artwork and the constant desire for new content that is easily shareable. This series explores the idea: in this new economy of art, how long will it be before all that is left to share is the waste of consumerism?
Veewz (screenshot) - single channel video loop with audio, 1 min 28 sec, 2018
This video loop is used to explore the current state of our hyperconnectivity while querying the systems and structures through which it is achieved. Using live streaming apps and video chat services, the artist makes connections with visible individuals as well as performing for invisible audiences. The shifting values of privacy and surveillance are the underlying focus of these performances/interactions. Edited to music (produced by the artist) from over-compressed samples of meme videos, ground up into punchy blips and set to a frenetic pace of chaotic noise.
