Something emanates from a book that stirs the soul. It speaks to the imagination and uplifts the spirit. It transports the mind. Read the narrative of a novel and it becomes a part of your life, an essence of your existence. Each novel becomes a bookmark heralding all of the significant chapters of your life. Childhood stories become havens of solace you can revisit time and time again. Hunt for coons along with Old Dan and Little Ann. Walk the humid, sticky streets of Maycomb, Alabama with Scout and Jem. Step through a wardrobe and come face to face with Aslan and the Prevensie children. There is no end to the number of realms your imagination can take you.
“When a person is lucky enough to live inside a story, to live inside an imaginary world, the pains of this world disappear. For as long as the story goes on, reality no longer exists" - Paul Auster.
I revel in the moments inside this imaginary world. To be a part of the bonhomie of strangers from around the world, all reading the same book. Each book you hold in your hands, that you grasp with your fingertips, opens up a plethora of worlds you can journey to. The release of a new book fills me with a wondrous anticipation. I am eager to cross that threshold and enter into an author's imagination to greet and accompany old friends about to embark on a perilous new journey or be introduced to strangers who, in the course of a few pages, will become trusted friends that I can visit time and again to receive comfort, solace and companionship.
