I'm talking to awesome geek/photog @ThomasHawk who made a great post about Ello earlier today. He has me won over because of the photography. Which doesn't change my thesis, that this is a Google+ killer. Hah.
I made this image in my backyard (I live walking distance from the Half Moon Bay Ritz) and a photographer/geek was there (I didn't get his name, but he was attending the Atlassian conference) with a great old view camera.
Me? I shot this on my old iPhone. Not too shabby, huh? Processing done automatically by Google+. Yeah, I probably would have burned the left side down a little if I were playing around in Lightroom, but I'm just too lazy.
Is this enough to win over the crowds? Nope, but after clicking through all the photographers and artists that Thomas is following I see where it could go.
Right now I have 208 people in my friends list. I might move all those to noise and move any decent photographer who posts into friends.
That's one reason why I've kept from mouthing off about Ello over on Twitter and Facebook: I wanted to find a use case to talk about first.
So far, photography is the one thing that Ello really brings to the table.
It's just too bad that most people are reading social on mobile phones (me included). But damn, on my 27-inch iMac this sure looks fucking awesome.
