So my 9yr old daughter and I have entered the planning stage of our new game Lion Life. She and I had talked about game ideas all summer long, and after several failed attempts to start the process, we've finally begun. We've started with a good old fashioned roadmap and kanban board in the basement. I must admit, writing up tickets and moving them across the board is significantly more fun with a 9 year old than with my coworkers. Since we're just in the beginning stages, the scope of the tasks is limited to things like "set up wiki and repo", "purchase photoshop", "develop more concept art" etc... the fun parts:) Earlier today, she was glued to a most excellent (and free) Female Character Course by Tim Von Rueden over at Concept Cookie. The next step for me is to build out some rudimentary screen tests using Spine and a little pixi.js or similar.
