born on this day in 1572. The Church official who commissioned the painting exclaimed in
exasperation, "Why have you put a horse
in the middle, and Saint Paul on the ground?" To which Caravaggio
replied, "Because!" The church official then asked, "Is the horse God?"
Caravaggio replied, "No, but he stands in God's light!"
