I've been a hardcore eMusic subscriber for a decade, and have watched the service wax and wane through good times and bad. Just got a letter from them about plans to "immediately exit from mainstream music distribution and return to our roots." They're going all-indie.
On one hand, I'm happy for them and think it's totally the right move - how can they compete with the big guys on modern mainstream tracks? On the other hand, the intertubes just lost its cheapest legit source for older mainstream tunes - more than once I've comparison shopped for an older album on emusic, iTunes and Amazon and found the emusic price to be as low as 50%.
Next time you realize you need to flesh out your ELO, Paul Simon, Pink Floyd, Cat Stevens or Elton John back-catalog, you're going to end up paying full price. So, yeah, kinda bummed.
