Fumbling for a heartbeat,
The EMT's work through the minutes,
Adrenaline running through their veins,
"Can you feel a pulse?!"
Kristy doesn't really know what is happening as she watches from the living room.
There are red and blue lights reflecting off of the windows,
There are three windows on the first floor,
Two on the second floor,
Alternating red and blue lights; like the pulsating anger and sadness,
Kristy is watching from the front porch now.
The body is loaded onto a gurney,
The gurney is loaded into an ambulance,
The back door slowly swings closed as the final crown vic's wheels begin to turn,
The ambulance pulls away shortly after,
An officer has taken Kristy with him while they wait for her aunt to fly in.
Kristy is now 26,
She is a mother of two with a loving husband,
She still sheds tears when she sees red and blue lights,
She is not sure whether to be proud of herself for quitting the pills after her first child,
Or whether she should blame herself for not helping her mom do the same thing when she had a chance.
