Society and Morality: An Essay on their Connection
Are those accusations correct and justified? Perhaps. However, the point is those two tendencies above make us turn our eyes away from what might be what we actually need to focus on, ourselves. That does not mean we become totally engrossed with ourselves and do not give a damn about what happen around us. When understood appropriately, what need to be taken into consideration is who we are and how we live affect society at large. Why should that be taken into consideration? Because society is made up of people, more specifically, individuals. So each individual’s actions and behaviors, more or less, impact society overall. The difficulty is those impacts, since they seem insignificant, are easy to overlook. We think that our personal conducts and small actions go without notice, so we think that our personal actions do not have consequences, and, therefore, we think that there is a disconnection between our personal lives and society. We had forgotten and we no longer believe that individual, self-improvements, although seemingly small in the whole scheme of things, make an impact to societal change. We choose grandiosity and exhibition over quiet and natural growth.
